EFFICIENT LEARNING + MAXIMUM FLEXIBILITY:

The system starts with a base 4-2-5 personnel and structure. The system allows the defense to morph into Even, Odd (3-4), Tite/Mint, Bear, Odd Stack, and 3-High Safety structures with ease, along with "heavier" defensive schemes for 2/3 Back Power offenses. Powered by a modular structure and progressive teaching methodology, our system minimizes the need for extensive new teaching and memorization post-installation, granting unparalleled flexibility and customization options. Traditional constraints such as limited installation time, player comprehension, and fear of complexity often hinder the adoption of new defensive concepts. Our modular teaching system mitigates these challenges, efficiently installing tailored defensive strategies. Instead of settling for pre-made calls, you can construct customized defensive solutions from scratch, ensuring optimal defensive performance against any opponent, with the goal of “getting the chalk last.”

While CVD offers a comprehensive defensive scheme, it is designed to accommodate external defensive schemes seamlessly. Leveraging a robust language framework and modular teaching approach, coaches can effortlessly incorporate schemes from other defenses and new defensive concepts into the system without disrupting existing structures. For example, I installed Iowa State’s base 3-High Safety structure in 10 minutes, helping us win a rivalry game.

This system boasts a comprehensive repository of defensive strategies tailored to counter every offensive scheme imaginable. Most offense systems possess diverse answers for each defensive scheme they face. However, few, if any, defensive systems have the same “if-then” approach. With our built-in schematic library, you'll gain access to a wealth of resources designed to address the unique challenges posed by various offensive systems.

 

Our library includes detailed instructions for defending a multitude of offenses, including but not limited to the Wing-T, Flexbone, Wishbone, Split Back/I Veer Option, Fly, Double Wing, Single Wing, I Wing (23 Personnel), Power-T, 2 Back Pro (21/22 Personnel), 1 Back Pro (Joe Gibbs/Boise State in the mid-2000s), West Coast Offense, Wide Zone (Under Center/Pistol), 4 Wide Zone Read, Air Raid, Run & Shoot, “The Briles” Offense, and of course, the 11 Personnel Y-Off Gun Zone & Gap RPO Offense du jour.

With the system’s library of answers and tools at your disposal, we can help tweak your calls to limit what your opponents do best. It is also an excellent tool for designing 3rd Down pressures to break an opponent’s protection scheme or attack certain personnel.

In addition to providing a wealth of defensive solutions, our system offers live, in-season support sessions to fine-tune game plans based on upcoming opponents. From creating “stopper calls” on critical downs to tailored 3rd Down pressures to adjusting, our sessions equip coaches with the resources to succeed on game day.

 

ADAPT TO YOUR PERSONNEL:

One of the reasons I wanted to create a comprehensive system is so that coaches can retain the same language and teaching methods/progression regardless of the scheme they use. Most defensive schemes are based on specific personnel groupings (think 4-2-5, 3-3 Stack, etc.), and the system comes with a native language. There is a common belief that if you change defensive systems, you must alter what/how you call things. The issue is that most high school programs get different body types year to year, so coaches end up shoehorning players into an ill-fitting scheme or switching defenses completely, shedding a lot of the terms. CVD allows you to keep the same foundation regardless of your chosen scheme, giving your program more continuity. Considerations for scheme-specific mechanics are embedded in the system (for example, declaring the 4th rusher in the 3-4).
