The system starts with a base 4-2-5 personnel and structure. The system allows the defense to morph into Even, Tite/Mint, Bear, 3-High Safety, and Odd structures with ease, as well as "heavier" defensive schemes for 2/3 Back Power offenses. Powered by a modular structure and progressive teaching methodology, our system minimizes the need for extensive new teaching and memorization post-installation, granting unparalleled flexibility and customization options. While CVD offers a comprehensive defensive scheme, it is designed to seamlessly accommodate external defensive schemes. Leveraging a robust language framework and modular teaching approach, coaches can effortlessly incorporate schemes from other defenses and new defensive concepts into the system without disrupting existing structures. For example, I installed Iowa State’s base 3-High Safety structure in 10 minutes, helping us win a rivalry game.

 

LIBRARY OF ANSWERS FOR EVERY OFFENSE:

This system boasts a comprehensive repository of defensive strategies tailored to counter every offensive scheme imaginable. Most offense systems possess diverse answers for each defensive scheme they face. However, few, if any, defensive systems have the same “if-then” approach. With our built-in schematic library, you'll gain access to a wealth of resources designed to address the unique challenges posed by various offensive systems.

 

Our library includes detailed plans for defending every offensive personnel group and offensive style, including the 10 & 11P Spread, 12P Gun & Under Center, 2 Back Pro, and all 3 Back Personnel Groups (30, 31, 32 Personnel). We also have detailed plans to defend "system" offenses such as the Air Raid, Veer & Shoot (Briles/Heupel), Flexbone, Split Back Veer, Wing-T (Traditional & Shotgun), Double Wing, Single Wing, Power-T, and the Power/Maryland I (I Veer & Texas Slot-T coming soon)!

One of the reasons I wanted to create a comprehensive system is so that coaches can retain the same language and teaching methods/progression regardless of the scheme they use. Most defensive schemes are based on specific personnel groupings (think 4-2-5, 3-3 Stack, etc.), and the system comes with a native language. There is a common belief that if you change defensive systems, you must alter what/how you call things. The issue is that most high school programs get different body types year to year, so coaches end up shoehorning players into an ill-fitting scheme or switching defenses completely, shedding a lot of the terms. CVD lets you keep the same foundation regardless of your chosen scheme, giving your program greater continuity.
